Houston Abreu suspended for 2 games for causing bench clearing with threatening ball

Houston Astros right-hander Brian Abreu has been suspended.

On the 22nd (Korean time), the Major League Baseball Secretariat announced in the name of Senior Vice President of Game Operations Michael Hill that Abreu would be suspended for two games.

Abreu hit opposing batter Adolis Garcia’s left arm while pitching in the bottom of the 8th inning in Game 5 of the Championship Series against the Texas Rangers held the previous day.

After being hit in the arm by a fastball, Garcia became enraged and collided with catcher Martin Maldonado, which escalated into a bench clearance. Garcia, Abreu, and Houston coach Dusty Baker were ejected.메이저사이트

While there was controversy over whether it was intentional, the umpires at the time agreed to acknowledge the pitcher’s intentionality and ordered him to leave. The Major League office appears to have made the same decision.

The Major League Secretariat said, ‘All six umpires acknowledged the intentionality of the pitch. He explained the background to this disciplinary action, saying, “The Major League Secretariat also considered the risk of pitching and situations that could have affected player safety.”

This punishment will be applied immediately from Game 6 of the series, which will be held a day later.

However, if the player chooses to appeal, the disciplinary action will be delayed until the appeal process is completed. Considering Abreu’s importance to Houston’s bullpen, it is highly likely that he will choose to appeal.

According to local media such as ‘ESPN’, the Major League Baseball Secretariat must complete the appeal process within 48 hours. Depending on the outcome of the appeal, there remains a possibility that Abreu may not appear during the postseason.

In addition, Garcia, Texas pitcher Matt Bush, and Houston pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. were fined for their actions during bench clearing.

Bush and McCullers Jr., who are not on the roster, will not be in the dugout for the remainder of the series.

In addition, Coach Baker was fined for refusing to leave the stadium despite being ordered to do so.
