The Pohang Steelers and Jeonbuk Hyundai will meet in a single-leg final for a piece of FA Cup history.
The two teams will meet in the 2023 Hana Bank FA Cup Final on Thursday at 2:15 p.m. at Pohang Steel Yard in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province. Pohang will be looking to win the title for the first time in 10 years since 2013. Jeonbuk is looking to win its second straight title after last season.

Jeonbuk, on the other hand, will attempt to become the first team to win the FA Cup six times. It’s also a chance for them to avenge their loss to Pohang a decade ago. Notably, Jeonbuk has won at least one trophy every year since 2014. They failed to win the league title this season and with the Asian Champions League (ACL) moving to the Chinese New Year, a win in the FA Cup would extend their streak.
This year’s FA Cup final will be a single-legged affair. It will be held at the home of the winner of the Jeju-Pohang semifinal. This gives Pohang home field advantage. However, Pohang will have a physical advantage as they had to go to overtime in the semifinals against Jeju. Jeonbuk has less of a physical burden, as they defeated Incheon in regulation time, but they are playing away from home.
The matchup between the two teams has been highlighted by the ‘substitution controversy’ that occurred in the match on the 28th of last month. In the 35th round match of the 2023 Hana One Q K League 1 at Jeonju World Cup Stadium, Pohang played with 12 men for four and a half minutes.
Jeonbuk is claiming a forfeit from Pohang under the ‘ineligible player’ rule. Pohang admitted that they made a mistake, but claimed that the referees were ultimately responsible. The KFA is reviewing the forfeit, which is why the upcoming match between the two teams is being closely watched.
