Ryu Jung-il took over the reins of the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Asian Professional Baseball Championship (APBC). The KBO Strength and Conditioning Committee actually removed Lee from the roster for non-injury reasons at the Asian Games, but included him in the final roster for the APBC.
There was some speculation that the KBO Power Enhancement Committee would not take Lee to the APBC in the first place, so the process of changing the roster for the Asian Games was not smooth. Lee said, “It’s not going to be an easy time in my life 굿모닝토토.
On Sept. 21, Lee pitched 1 1/3 innings against Daejeon Hanwha, giving up five runs (four earned) on two hits, three walks and three strikeouts. The KIA Tigers removed Lee from the game after his blister healed, and analyzed his poor pitching as unrelated to his physical condition. On the other hand, the KBO Power Enhancement Committee and the national team coaching staff interpreted the blisters as lingering effects.
Regardless of the facts, Lee admitted that he was hurt. He hoped that the KBO would have contacted him directly to apologize if it was an unusual substitution, but since it was a common substitution, the KBO did not contact the player directly, but through the KIA team.
The baseball team won the gold medal in Hangzhou, and KIA utilized Lee Yi-ri without a break from the Asian Games to fight for a top-five finish to the end of the season. Lee Yi-ri and coach Ryu Jung-il are now together in the APBC. The team will hold its first training camp on June 6 at Daegu Samsung Lions Park. Players from teams not participating in the Korean Series gathered in Daegu on the night of the 5th.
The APBC roster has been finalized, but players from the LG Twins and KT Wiz will not be able to participate in the Korean Series. This is because they will have less time to prepare for the tournament after the Korean Series. Roster changes are inevitable.
Lee won’t be left out of the roster this time. He will have to play a key role in the starting lineup. It’s a good experience for Lee, too. Facing the best young hitters in the Japanese, Taiwanese, and Australian leagues will give him something to work on for the 2024 season.
For the record, there’s no chance of Lee getting a call-up to the national team. The past is the past, and the present is the present. Lee has made no secret of his desire to play for the national team even after the Asian Games, and it’s a true professional attitude to give your best whenever your country calls you. Showing personal feelings in front of the flag is unacceptable.Article courtesy of My Daily
