South Korea’s women’s baseball team loses 3-1 to Australia in World Cup qualifiers, ranks last in the group for three consecutive losses

Korean women’s baseball (ranked 10th in the world) suffered three consecutive losses.

The national team, led by head coach 꽁머니지급 Yang Sang-moon, lost 3-10 in the 3rd match against Australia in Group A of the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s Baseball World Cup held at Port Arthur Stadium in Thunder Bay, Canada on the 11th (Korean time). 

The national team gave up 2 runs in the 1st inning and 3 runs in the 2nd inning as starting pitcher Choi Song-hee was sluggish with 6 hits and 5 runs (4 earned) in 1 inning. She gave up runs in every inning except for three. In addition to a total of 5 hits and empty hits, the national team collapsed on this day, committing 6 errors. 

Korea lost to Hong Kong (8-9), the United States (0-14, 5th cold game), and Australia in succession, dropping to the bottom of Group A, where six countries compete.

The national team will finish the preliminary rounds with Canada on the 12th and Mexico on the 13th.

Six countries, including the top two teams from each group and the two wild card teams from the A and B group qualifiers, will compete in the Women’s Baseball World Cup finals to be held in Thunder Bay next year.
